Message by the President
of Athens Bar Association,
Mr. Dimitrios Vervesos

Dear Colleagues, Ladies and Gentlemen,

The great social and economic growth that sport has demonstrated in the past years has brought to the surface a series of affairs that are in need of legal resolutions thus turning sports law into a self-examining conceptual field of legal science.

Differences arising from sports activity, which are faced by the sports legal order, concern the rules of exercising sports as well as the organization and functioning of sports associations. In the course of time though, the interest of legal science is directed towards more specific matters that are dealt with special legal regulations as well as towards the national and international sports jurisdiction.

The 25th IASL Congress we will be able to scientifically discuss the various aspects, of the conflicting issues, the limits and perspectives of law in the world of the sport within the very important subject: «Professionalism Sports Activities, International Sports Rules / Sports law Code”.

The IASL has been a unique and invaluable opportunity from 1992 for all of us to share experiences and new ideas directed toward the improvement of national and international efforts to govern and otherwise manage a human activity as such as is the sports activities whiches rank as at the top of global popularity.

We encourage the widest possible participation of the legal world in the activities of the Congress, with the firm conviction that the findings obtained will constitute yet another step towards the formulation of sports law on the basis of a national and supranational level.

I am very glad where this congress takes place in the historical city of Athens and I wish to all participants very good accommodation and successful congress.
